Sexo oral: evolución de la deshonra

Oral sex, that great pleasure for men and women, was not always as common and tempting a practice as it is today. Although its practice dates back to Ancient Egyptian times, its perception has not ceased to change for religious, social, etc. reasons.

It should be noted that, even today, many religions condemn it as an unnatural and immoral practice, due to the fact that it is an act unrelated to reproduction. Even in some states of the USA, it was considered illegal until 2003, clashing with the most radical doctrines of the Church, which see oral sex as a process against procreation.

Apart from these religious motives, there is another reason to consider: a great taboo for many societies was the subject of hygiene, a taboo that is still very much alive, especially in parts of Africa and the Islamic world.

But let's take it one step at a time:

What is considered oral sex?

According to the RAE dictionary, they are described as the acts of stimulating the penis or vagina with the mouth, coming from the Latin fellatio (der. from fellāre 'to suck') and cunnilingus ('who licks the vulva').

The earliest record of fellatio comes from Ancient Egypt. Its women were particularly known for their sexual prowess and for being the first to put on makeup. Hence, the felatrices, wore lips of a certain color, to make known their inclination for this practice. And it is in their mythological tradition, where we observe the first record of oral sex: The myth of Isis and Osiris.

Ancient Egypt

Osiris, murdered and torn to pieces by his evil brother Seth, was collected by his wife Isis. She managed to locate all the pieces except the penis, which was supposedly swallowed by an oxyrhynchus fish from the Nile. For this reason, Isis reconstructed the penis with clay and proceeded to fellate it to bring her beloved spore back to life. Osiris revived just in time to impregnate his wife and procreate Horus, who turned out to be the avenger of his death.

Indochina

In both India and China, fellatio was also ritualized. In the Indian Kamasutra, from the first century A.D., oral sex is described extensively in its section called auparishtaka, detailing 8 ways of practicing fellatio. However, it was considered a behavior characteristic of eunuchs or of an impudent character that was only practiced by "unchaste women".

Greece

It is in Ancient Greece where a freer practice of fellatio begins to be distilled. Already in the Iliad appeared, for the first time, the term Lesbos, referring to the experts in fellatio (from the Greek verb lesbiázein, which means "to fellate"). This term was distorted by the Christians, who classified them as lesbians, when the truth is that the Greeks used the word tríbada, from the Greek tribo (to rub), to refer to lesbians.

Ancient Rome

In ancient Rome the fellare or irrumare of the felatrices was considered common since we have ample testimonies from Martial. Their conception was interesting, as they linked power to oral sex, creating roles of dominants and submissives. Practicing oral sex as a passive was perceived as a submissive act, hence slaves, prostitutes or those of lower rank were in charge of performing it. For example, to punish someone who had stolen, a Roman could force the person to perform oral sex on him or her.

That is, performing fellatio or cunnilingus, whether the performer was a man or a woman, made him or her guilty. According to the Roman hierarchy of sexual degradation, a man suspected of having orally stimulated a woman was lowered more than one who was penetrated by another man. He was imposed the legal status of infamous, on the same level as prostitutes, gladiators and actors, which prevented him from voting and representing himself in court.

Throughout history, various women from the noblest families have been singled out as great or expert felatrices, among them Julia (the daughter of Emperor Augustus), Agrippina, Messalina or Cleopatra, who has gone down in history, among other qualities, for her excessive sexual appetite. The Greeks nicknamed her merichane, "the gaping one" or "the mouth of ten thousand men" because, it is said, she was capable of giving oral sex to one hundred Roman soldiers in one night.

With the Church we have stumbled!

For both the Catholic Church and the Islamic religion, sexual pleasure is directly related to procreation, so the rest is mortal sin.

According to the Bible

The History of Sodom and Gomorrah is a case in point: in the city of Sodom, sexual acts that did not lead to pregnancy were described, such as masturbation, fellatio, cunnilingus and anal sex. The city fell around 1900 BC and according to studies by archaeologists G. Harris and T. Beardow, the term sodomy came from the city of Sodom.

According to the Koran

Islamic literature explicitly forbids sex during the menstrual cycle within marriage. But the attitude toward oral sex and anal sex is a topic of discussion among modern students of Islam. Other factions, on the other hand, believe that oral stimulation of the penis is forbidden, while female oral stimulation is acceptable.

As far as oral sex is concerned, some religious authorities are of the opinion that oral sex is allowed, as long as no liquid enters the mouth. This is because traditional Islamic cultures consider the mouth to be the pure organ (the organ of speech), so fellatio is condemned for dirtying the mouth.

Other cultures

The Inuit, for example, do not practice fellatio because for them it implies weakening and we must remember that their sexual practices are based on energetic use.

In the ancient Peruvian Moche culture, thanks to the drawings on their ceramics, it is known that they worshipped daily life including sexual practices such as fellatio.

In Papua New Guinea there is a belief that semen has essential properties, so, as a way of initiation to maturity, young people ingest the semen of their elders by performing fellatio.

Badly seen, condemned or illegal, oral sex has always been carried out; secretly and illegitimately, there are historical sources that reveal its practice even though it is an activity proscribed by law. Who can resist a good dose of oral sex? The world is there to be enjoyed, so take heart and don't hesitate to explore all forms of pleasure!
